Market Match Update: Funding Secured! CA State Budget Funds Program Through 2028

Thanks to the support of many organizations, elected officials, and individuals, Ecology Center’s Market Match program has secured funding through 2028.

The California Nutrition Incentive Program (CNIP), which funds Market Match, received $35 million in the 2023 State Budget, thanks to the hard work of many supporters.

Market Match enables CalFresh shoppers to double their money for produce at 270+ CA farmers’ markets and farm direct sites.

Despite a tight budget year, the unwavering commitment of food security and farmers’ market advocates and key elected officials made this possible. A special thank you to CA budget leaders, namely Asm. Phil Ting (whose 2015 bill created CNIP), Gov. Newsom, Sen. Nancy Skinner, Sen. Toni Atkins, and Asm. Anthony Rendon.

Ecology Center also extends deep gratitude to the 60+ farmers’ markets and nonprofit partners, and individual supporters for their tireless efforts, including Roots of Change, the California Market Match Consortium, and the California Alliance of Farmers’ Markets.

This win exemplifies the power of collective action and grassroots advocacy. Find your local farmers’ market today on FMFinder.org
