Feeding the 5000 Comes to Oakland, 10/18/14

20141008feeding5000We waste over 40% of our food, while 80% of freshwater use and 33% of fossil fuel emissions are due to our food system. At the same time, 1 in 5 people in Alameda County are food insecure or do not know where their next meal is coming from at some point during the year.

Feeding the 5000 provides tasty solutions to this massive global food waste and hunger problem. EndFoodWaste.org is coordinating this 100% FREE festival that includes a meal for 5000 people made from fresh food that would have been wasted before it ever made it to the stores, because of strict cosmetic standards. This big festival with speakers, demonstrations, DJs and more will happen in Frank Ogawa Plaza in downtown Oakland on Saturday, October 18th from 12 – 5 pm. Everyone is invited! The Ecology Center is a proud co-sponsor of this event.

Check out more details about the event here, and RSVP to spread the word on Facebook.
