The Ecology Center is thrilled to continue serving as your nonprofit neighborhood recycler for another five years! Since 1973, we have operated Berkeley’s Curbside Recycling Program under a City of Berkeley contract, with the weekly collection of cans, bottles, newsprint, mixed paper and cardboard.
As a part of our renewed partnership, the City of Berkeley has approved a phased program to replace older residential recycling carts on a neighborhood by neighborhood basis. This replacement project is funded by the City of Berkeley’s Zero Waste Division/Public Works Department through the Ecology Center’s Residential Curbside Recycling Services City Contract. Newer carts delivered in recent years will remain in service and will not be replaced at this time. Old carts will be removed and replaced on your scheduled collection day and recycled to help offset costs.
Residents whose carts are scheduled for replacement this year will receive a notice in the mail. If your cart is selected for replacement, you will receive a new cart at your curb prior to your collection day. Please be sure to set out your old recycling cart on your next collection day, full or not, and leave it out until it is removed.
