Second Event in Soda Series: Soda & Kids, 9/13/14

20140815sodaseriessmallParticipants left our first Soda Series event last night with tons of information about the unique ways sugary drinks are absorbed by our bodies. Panelists also shared why we need to take action: sugar sweetened beverages are contributing to an expensive and harmful diabetes epidemic sweeping through this generation. Our next event focuses on the ways kids, teens and young people are particularly vulnerable. 1 in 3 kids will develop diabetes, yet kids are drinking more sugar than ever. Learn how sugary drinks affect kids’ health and how the soda industry is targeting kids and people of color to grow their profits. Kids are welcome at this free event, Saturday, September 13th!

There’s an amazing line up of speakers, including Anna Lappé, joining to discuss this issue:

  • Anna Lappe, Author
Founder of Small Planet Institute (moderator)
  • Lori Dorfman, DrPH
    Director, Berkeley Media Studies Group
  • Xavier Morales, PhD
Director, Latino Coalition for a Healthy California
  • Kristine Madsen, MD

  • Vicki Alexander, MD, MPH
Retired Maternal Child & Adolescent Health Director and Health Officer for the City of Berkeley
