Funding for nutrition incentive programs will support healthy, affordable food for low-income Californians, and revenue for local farms. California communities can thrive and be healthy – but our leaders need to be reminded that win-win programs need funding in the 2016-17 budget!

My name is ____ and I urge Governor Jerry Brown and the CA State Legislature to fund the California Nutrition Incentive Matching (NIM) Grant Program, which was created last year, but remains unfunded. State funding would attract federal matching dollars, which could double the state’s investment.

The NIM Grant Program is built on the evidence-based success of California Market Match, a pilot that doubles the value of CalFresh, and other public benefits, when used by low income people to buy fruits and vegetables. Market Match is offered at more than 230 farmers’ markets and other locations where local produce is sold. These programs drive support to small and mid-sized farms, increase the amount of farm-fresh produce consumed by low-income families, and keep dollars circulating in local communities. Please fund this vital program!
