Educates & assists citizen groups & agency personnel coping with environmental impacts that arise from state and federal laws that inadequately regulate the mining industry, especially the 1872 Mining Law; serves as a source of information on the environmental programs with those laws, & the problems such laws cause the mineral development industry; lobbies for reform amendments to the laws & the corresponding federal agency regulations. Provides technical, legal & political strategy assistance to deal with the mineral threats to sensitive areas. Trains activists, regulators, & press.
