Dorothy Day House is a food pantry that has its roots in the Berkeley Catholic Worker Community but they are a multi-denomination, human services group, dedicated to feeding the hungry. They welcome volunteers of all beliefs and faiths. They serve breakfast Monday-Saturday in two shifts (5am-6:30am and 6:30-9:30am) year around. DDH also hosts the Berkeley Emergency Storm Shelter (BESS) at the First Congregational Church between November and April on nights with harsh winter weather. A team of independent contractors and up to 4 volunteers host BESS each night that it is open. Meal Preparation Occurs at the Veteran Men’s Shelter in Downtown Berkeley: 1931 Center Street, between Milvia St and Martin Luther King Jr Way.
