Four Sisters Farm was established in 1977 when Robin and Nancy Gammons purchased 5 acres of marginal pasture on a hillside in northern San Benito County. Both partners had experience in organic gardening, and they put these skills to good use on their small farm, using organic methods from the very beginning. They planted a kiwi orchard in 1978, and eventually expanded into mixed vegetables and flowers.

Robin & Nancy named the farm after their four daughters, Lucy, Jill, Dusty, and Prema, who have all consistently helped out on the farm. Farming organically has improved the soil tremendously on their 5 acres. Whereas they began with about 3 inches of loamy topsoil, they now have about 28 inches of topsoil! Robin and Nancy say, “We chose to farm so that we could have a simple life and live in peace. It’s a great life.”
