Food & Farming

Healthy, sustainably produced food for all.
The Ecology Center’s Food & Farming programs create change by transforming how food is grown, distributed, and accessed, linking local action with statewide systems change. We operate farmers’ markets that serve as essential community infrastructure, connecting regional farmers directly with shoppers, supporting small- and mid-sized producers, and expanding equitable access to fresh, healthy food through CalFresh and Market Match.
Beyond the market, we work to strengthen the broader food system through partnerships, training, and policy advocacy. Through leadership in statewide networks and coalitions, we support farmers’ market operators, advance standards and best practices, and advocate for policies that invest in local agriculture, increase food access, and build climate resilience.
Grounded in environmental protection, justice, and community well-being, our approach centers those most impacted by food insecurity and climate change. By piloting solutions locally and scaling them through policy and partnerships, we are building a more equitable, regenerative food system that supports farmers, nourishes communities, and sustains the land for generations to come.
