Market Site Coordinator

Temporary/Part-time position (5-15 hours) per week $12.00/hour
Starts-July 7th Ends-August 18th

Farm Fresh Choice (FFC) is a community-based food justice program based in South and West Berkeley. FFC works to improve the health of South and West Berkeley residents by increasing access to healthy affordable produce through neighborhood produce stands at after-school childcare centers. FFC aims to increase awareness and support of local “sustainable agriculture” and works directly with local farmers.

The Market Site Coordinator (MSC) is responsible for the maintenance and logistics of one Farm Fresh Choice Community Produce Stand. This position requires enthusiasm, good people skills, a responsible and mature attitude, physical stamina, good leadership, a positive work attitude, and the ability to work as a team player. Prior experience with youth development, food and agriculture is a requirement.

Market Site Coordinators are responsible for the logistics of their assigned community produce stand including: setting up tables, canopies, produce baskets, and sales materials.

Market Site Coordinators supervise other FFC staff at their site during the 3-hour markets and are responsible for break down, clean up, and maintenance of equipment and supplies. Prior to markets, MSC’s may be asked assist with purchasing, sorting and distribution of produce. MSC’s work closely with youth interns and the FFC Program Managers. This position requires lifting of up to 40lbs and working outside year-round during rain or shine weather.

Market Site Coordinators are required to attend weekly staff meeting and trainings(8wks). The staff meeting and trainings cover a range of topics including market business, nutrition education, farm and garden education, public speaking, and community outreach training. After an initial orientation period, MSC’s are encouraged to become facilitators of the staff meetings and activities.

Outside of market hours, MSC’s are responsible for maintaining good community relations and coordinating community events within the scope of the Farm Fresh Choice Outreach Plan. MSC’s are responsible for maintaining the attachment program as well as member events at their market site throughout the year.
