Muzhik, or the traveling tailor and artful mender, is the market’s resident clothier, operating a drop-off/pickup clothing repair service on Tuesdays and Thursdays. ‘Muzhik’ is the Russian word for peasant, but ‘a muzhik’ is also someone who can come up with a creative fix. This particular muzhik is named Cirrus, and he has a keen interest in repairing denim and woolens in visible and artistic ways, but he works with any textiles – bedsheets, tote bags, stuffed animals, etcetera. He is self-taught, and always learning, but encourages you to stop by to chat about whatever repairs you are hoping for, and if you would like to learn how to mend your own clothes yourself, he is always happy to share some practical skills and tips.
