Providing healthy, organic food for his community is at the heart of Rudy Jimenez’s mission as a farmer. Rudy graduated from the Agricultural Land Base Association (ALBA) and Hartnell with a Farmer Education Course (‘PEPA’) to start to develop his organic farm and gained valuable skills to increase his career opportunities in agriculture.
Growing up in a farmworker family in Monterey county, he founded Green Thumb Organics Farms with his dad a three-acre certified organic farm in East Salinas, California. In Salinas he serves youth ages 15 to 24, formerly incarcerated youth, migrant youth, and parents. Rudy was the 2019 recipient of the California Small Farmers Guild “New Farmer of the Year” award for being recognized as an organic farmer from across the state who has contributed to a stronger local food economy by promoting food justice and empowering a new generation of agrarians.
