Teen Winter Series Workshop: The Wonders of Baking

Sunday | February 10, 2019 | 10:00 am — 12:00 pm

In this baking workshop hosted by Urban Adamah, you will focus on wheat’s significance in Judaism, and the journey that it takes from field to table. You will situate the wheat harvest in the Jewish agricultural calendar (harvest at Shavuot), as well as study the laws of peah (donating a corner of your field) and the Jewish approach to hunger and justice. Teens will thresh, winnow and grind wheat that was grown on site to make a traditional pastry like hamantaschen or rugelach. Teens will also make jam from scratch to enjoy with the pastries. Each program begins with grounding through meditation, song or movement. To close, you will reflect on the day and enjoy snacks together.
