Seed Saving in Community Class – Deep Adaptation and Delicious Diversity

Richmond Public Library 325 Civic Center Plaza, Richmond, CA 94804

With rising grocery prices, increasing uncertainty in our food supply, and the growing impacts of climate change, now is the time to take a hopeful, empowering step: learn the ancient and essential skill of saving seeds.

Do you rely on nurseries or seed catalogs for your garden? What happens when those sources dry up—or no longer offer seeds suited to our changing environment? Are the seeds you’re planting adapting to your climate, your soil, and your needs?

A century ago, we had access to thousands more varieties of food crops than we do today—over 94% of that seed diversity has been lost. Our current food system, built around uniform crops and centralized production, is fragile—easily disrupted by extreme weather, new pests, and supply chain issues.

But you can be part of the solution. Join us for this free Seed Saving in Community Class.
This hands-on class focuses on saving seeds from food crops and is designed to build local resilience. By learning to save and share seeds adapted to our region, you’re not just gardening—you’re building a living legacy and helping grow a community-based seed shed for future generations.

Instructor: Rebecca Newburn

A nationally recognized leader in the seed movement, Rebecca is the co-founder of the Richmond Grows Seed Lending Library and founder of the Seed Library Network. Her work has helped spark seed libraries around the world, empowering communities to protect plant diversity, build local food security, and respond to climate challenges with creativity and care.

Let’s plant the seeds of a more resilient future—together.
