Plastic-Free: Rethink Disposables

Wednesday | February 21, 2018 | 6:00 pm — 8:00 pm

Did you know that 80% of ocean litter comes from land based sources, and 67% of Bay Area street litter is from single use disposable food packaging? Even with the greenest intentions many of these items can’t be recycled or composted.

Join us in hearing how ReThink Disposable is working with governments, businesses, and individuals to reduce single use disposables on a big scale and how restaurants and communities are winning! Through on-site technical assistance, Rethink Disposable has saved Bay Area businesses money, reduced waste, and prevented single use items from escaping into the environment or going to landfill. By tackling packaging at its source we can prevent the harmful effects of pollution on wildlife and help prevent it from contaminating our very own food chain. Find out which restaurants have made the switch to reusables, and learn about how customer incentives such as bring your own cup or containers could turn the Bay Area into a model for communities around the nation. Learn techniques to speak with vendors about how you can take action in bringing your own reusables and inspire change in some of your favorite places.

Need to pick up some reusables for yourself? Come early and visit the Ecology Center store beforehand to inspire your zero waste, plastic free, on-the-go essentials.
