Natural Plant Dye Workshop in the Garden

Saturday | October 14, 2017 | 11:00 am — Sunday | October 15, 2017 | 3:00 pm

Ashby Community Garden | 1376 Ashby Avenue, Berkeley, CA 94702

In this two day hands on workshop, I will guide you through the process of natural plant dyeing. Each participant will leave with the knowledge of preparing the fiber/textiles for dyeing, harvesting of plants, mordanting & after mordandanting processes, and playing with tying & folding fabrics to create patterns. The cost includes 2 silk scarves, all dye materials, and dyed fabric swatches.
On the second day of the workshop, Sunday October 15th (1-3 pm), we will take our dyed fabrics to the next level. This is an optional day but one not to be missed, if possible! Often, textiles need several hours or overnight to absorb the dye fully. We will experiment with color modifyers to alter the color from the first dye bath. On Sunday we will also have time to create a swatch booklet to keep a record of the dyes used and how they look different on a variety of fabrics (wool, cotton, silk). Bee creative in the garden!
