Flight of the Salsas!

Sunday | May 15, 2022 | 11:00 am — 12:30 pm

Online Event

The Farmers Market Salsa Festival is just around the corner! Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 21, 2022! However, because the festival was moved to May due to Covid restrictions, we are faced with the challenge that tomatoes are out of season in May! How can we have a Salsa Festival with no salsa?

How lucky for the Ecology Center that Chef Alison Mounford has taken on the challenge and created 4 kinds of Salsa WITHOUT FRESH TOMATOES! In this hands-on workshop you will join Chef Alison as she makes Roasted Chipotle, Salsa Verde with Avocado, Pico de Gallo and Pineapple Habanero Salsa’s. You will receive an ingredient list so that you will be able to cook along, or if you prefer to watch and cook later, you will receive the recording of the class.

We know that you will be inspired and in the salsa mood after “Flight of the Salsa’s”, so be sure to mark your calendar, grab your market bag and dancing shoes and join us at the Farmers’ Market Salsa Festival on Saturday, May 21, 2022 from 10am to 5pm at Martin Luther King Civic Park in Downtown Berkeley.

The day will be filled with Latin music & dancing to the sounds of Grammy Award winner Christian Pepin y su Orquesta Bembe, Erick Peralta y el Conjunto Alta, Berkeley High School Jazz Ensemble, and the Latin Jazz Youth Ensemble of SF. Enjoy strolling among the earth-friendly arts & crafts for sale and watching more “salsas without tomatoes” recipe demonstrations by local chefs while sipping sustainably sourced beer, wine and mojitos. The Kid’s and whole family will love making their own People Powered Smoothies and trying on Fashion Trashion.

The Ecology Center’s Education and Engagement team will host environmental activities including electrification and waste reduction booths, induction cooking demonstrations, worm composting, and more.

This event is free and open to the public. We are looking forward to seeing you at the Berkeley Farmers’ Market Salsa Festival on May 21
