Final Thirsty Thursday Week Nine October 27
Thursday | October 27, 2022 | 3:00 pm — 7:00 pm
North Berkeley Farmers’ Market | Shattuck Avenue and Rose Street, Berkeley, CA 94709
For the entire months of September and October join us at the North Berkeley Farmers’Market as we celebrate our small farmers and food producers!
Farmers’ Markets are a critical ingredient to our nation’s food system whose tradition has deep roots in our own county’s history that can be traced back to Egypt, over 5,000 years ago and are a vital component in creating a community of shared values around access to fresh and healthy foods
Mark Thirsty Thursday’s on your calendar and enhance your market experience against a background of live local music, sustainable wine, craft beer and other beverages, food demonstrations and a host of environmental activities. Meet our community leaders in sustainability as each week we welcome rotating guest appearances by local chefs, wineries, breweries and performers. Each Thursday you will experience and learn something new – all while you listen to great music, enjoying earth friendly beverages and filling up your market bag with a mouth-watering harvest of seasonal produce while supporting family farms and local food producers.
Enjoy performance by BHSJazz, UC Berkeley’s a Capella ensemble “Trill Seekers” and Maria Ana Bija whose vocals range from Brazilian to French to early American jazz. There will be fun for the entire family, including bubble blowing, art, dance, music and chalk art at the Kids Eco-Zone.
Kitchen on Fire’s Chef Olive, StopWaste Chef Helga Alessio and Chef Adam will host cooking demos using fresh Farmers Market ingredients. Frey Wines, Vintage Berkeley and DeNovo Wines will pour wine, and you will be introduced to Rebout, a line of herbal wellness beverages made from all-natural ingredients.
Each week look forward to a new environmental activity hosted by the Ecology Center’s Education and Engagement program from in-person Zero Waste Audits to a Help Desk Pop-Up, to a Sorting Plastics demonstration.
The City of Berkeley’s Office of Energy and Sustainable Development will present induction cooking demonstrations while you learn more about all electric cooking, EBikes and “Everything Electric”. Feeling crafty? You’ll have the opportunity to watch Upcycled Textiles demonstrations by Creative Reuse artist Judith Schonebaum while shopping from her stunning collection of upcycled jewelry and functional art. Grab pieces of rescued discontinued designer samples donated by FabMo for your next project!
