EcoArt Matters: Spring Course at Laney Art Center

Thursday | December 06, 2018 — Thursday | January 31, 2019

Make and exhibit art/poetry/music/performance about the most urgent issues of our time. Learn creative problem solving strategies, combining the arts with science & activism, in a fun and supportive classroom community.

This semester the class will visit Recology/SF Dump’s Artist in Residence Program, Rosie the Riveter Museum to hear Betty Reid Soskin, the 97 year-old National Park Ranger; classroom visits from Bat Rescue, Plastic Pollution Coalition, San Quentin Prison Arts Program, Planting Justice, Our Children’s Trust, local activist artists; with screenings of recently released films about environmental and social justice issues, and more!
Students will create art that matters the most to them, across disciplines in the visual arts, media arts, literary arts and/or performing arts. The semester culminates in a public exhibition and performance on campus or in the East Bay community.
