Bay Area Bike to Work Day (BTWD) began 30 years ago in  1994 as a celebration of bicycles as a fun and healthy way to get to work, as well as an opportunity for those who don’t usually bike commute to try it out. It’s also a time to advocate for improved bicycle infrastructure and safety across the region.

Thursday, May 15th is Bike to Wherever day and we think there’s no better destination than the North Berkeley Farmers’ Market. Whether you’re an experienced rider or you haven’t pedaled in years, this is a great day to make the pledge to improve your health and help cut greenhouse emissions from transportation, which make up roughly half of Berkeley’s carbon footprint.

We’ll have free Bike to Wherever Day Tote Bags and our Youth Interns will be running a hydration station to quench your thirst. Do some shopping and or just stop by for a high-five.

All nine Bay Area counties will have energizer stations ready to hand out commemorative bags, treats, and much more. For the first time ever, you can see all of the Bay Area energizer stations on one map! The North Shattuck Farmers Market will have an evening energizer station near 1400 Shattuck Pl, Berkeley, CA  4pm – 6pm.  Exact energizer stations may change before the event, so keep checking back for the most up to date information.

You don’t have to wait for an organized event to take two wheels to the Berkeley Farmers’ Markets though, all three of our markets are conveniently located near existing bike lanes or boulevards with more on the way.

Commit to your ride by signing the Pledge, and show off your pride by taking the Bay Area Bike Challenge!
