Tuesday | May 31, 2022 | 3:00 pm — 5:00 pm
Berkeley Farmers’ Market, Tuesday | Adeline and Alcatraz, Berkeley, CA
Please help the Ecology Center’s Berkeley Farmers’ Market welcome authors Sandor Katz and June Jo Lee.
Sandor will be promoting his newest book, Sandor Katz’s Fermentation Journeys and teaching us how to make pao-cai, a chinese style of fermenting vegetables in a spiced brine that is perpetually reused.
Sandor is a fermentation revivalist. A self-taught experimentalist who lives in rural Tennessee, his explorations in fermentation developed out of his overlapping interests in cooking, nutrition, and gardening. He is the author of four previous books: Wild Fermentation, The Revolution Will Not Be Microwaved, The Art of Fermentation—which won a James Beard Foundation Award in 2013—and Fermentation as Metaphor.
June Jo Lee co-authored the forthcoming book, Sandor Katz and the Tiny Wild, which tells the story of Sandor’s discovery of an invisible world of microbes which transform the fermented foods we enjoy every day. This book is the latest in the Food Heroes Series which has profiled Will Allen, Alice Waters and Roy Choi.
Both books will be available for purchase and signing from our EcoStore pop-up at the market along with fermentation supplies and other goodies.
