Citrus is My Jam: Hands-On Harvest Workshop
Sunday | November 18, 2018 | 11:30 am — 1:30 pm
Ecology Center Classroom | 2530 San Pablo Avenue, Berkeley, CA 94702
It’s citrus season! The trees are heavy with fruit, more than you can possibly use at one time. Join us at the Ecology Center to learn how to preserve these fruits in their prime.
We will make orange or meyer lemon marmalade, and demonstrate two other ways to preserve lemons:
- Kosho, a zesty Japanese condiment that adds aromatic acidity (and some heat) to rice dishes, noodle soups, fish, and chicken.
- Lemonade Syrup, which can be refrigerated for up to 3 weeks, or frozen for 6 months.
Each student will leave with their own jar of marmalade, as well as the knowledge to continue their citrus preservation journey at home. All produce will be organic and sourced from the Berkeley Farmers’ Market or locally gleaned, and the jars will be sourced from the Ecology Center Store.
This workshop is part of our Hands-on Harvest Series, teaching people how to make the most of what’s in season and avoid food waste. Workshop attendees will receive discounts on Ecology Center Store preservation and fermentation products.Visit Event Website >>
