The Master Gardeners of Santa Clara County are volunteers with the University of California and their mission is to bring research-based gardening advice to the public. Their focus is sustainable gardening practices, from saving water to protecting the health of the soil to reducing yard waste – while, of course, gardening with the hundreds of the beautiful Mediterranean-climate plants that thrive in our climate!
They have demonstration gardens throughout the county where they teach workshops, and they also give free talks in many venues, including a dozen local libraries and community centers. Waterwise landscaping and year-round vegetable gardening are two of our main focuses.
