Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)

CITES member countries subjects international trade in specimens of selected species to certain controls. Controls are determined by an agreed upon, weighted list of endangered species. CITES’ aims are major components of Caring for the Earth, a Strategy for Sustainable Living, launched in 1991 by UNEP (United Nations Environment Program, IUCN) –
The World Conservation Union and WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature).
