1 in 2 children of color will get diabetes in their lifetime. This is one of the main reasons why the Ecology Center is involved in the Healthy Child Initiative, the effort to put a one-cent-per-ounce tax on sugary beverages. We have linked a factor in our environment that is making us sick and killing us to an action we can take in our community to solve it. Check out this video, featuring a young person telling his story about the wars his family is fighting. This is part of a Youth Speaks project called “The Bigger Picture,” with many more videos created by young writers, about the impact of type 2 diabetes. Listen to them, and let’s do what we can.
