Many of our members and supporters have been following the situation that unfolded two weeks ago, when a consultant hired by the City of Berkeley recommended that the City terminate the Ecology Center’s recycling contract. At the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, March 8th, we were able to make a strong case for the continuation of our recycling program. The support shown by our friends and allies at the meeting was substantial and sent an important message. Since then, the Ecology Center has been working with the City of Berkeley’s senior management to find a resolution that preserves our recycling program while cutting costs. The City’s recommended course of action will be released this Thursday, March 24, and discussed at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, March 29th. We will keep you posted.
