Support the Albany Farmers’ Market – Attend Commission Meeting Next Tue, 3/13/12

Last week the Albany Patch posted about the uncertain future of the seasonal Albany Market. The question in front of the City of Albany is whether the market will continue at the current Solano and San Pablo location this season, or be put on hold indefinitely. The Planning and Zoning Commission will be discussing whether to grant the permit for 2012 next Tuesday, March 13, 7:30 pm at Albany City Hall, 1000 San Pablo Avenue. They want to hear from Albany residents and businesses to help inform their decision, which could be settled on Tuesday night. If you want to shop at the market come May, and support the hard work of the Ecology Center and the vendors and farmers we work with, please come and speak up!
UPDATE: The Planning and Zoning Commission has posted the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting. View the attachments here (scroll down to 6 b.PA-11-013 Farmers’ Market): http://www.albanyca.org/index.aspx?recordid=4932&page=311

  1. Those of us here on Cerrito Street used the market constantly and very much support it staying on Solano Avenue. I went every week to buy groceries and dinner. We are very disappointed in the businesses who don’t want the market there, and are discussing that we will not support them if they veto the market.

  2. Heather,
Thank you so much for supporting the market. I hope that some of the Cerrito Street neighbors can attend the commission meeting. They want to hear from Albany residents to help inform their decision, which could be settled on Tuesday night. If you are unable to attend the meeting, but want to send a letter of support, send an email to cityhall@albanyca.org, attention “farmers market.”
    Thanks again!
