Reuse in Action: An Old iMac Became a Clock and Lamp

20140728reuseWe were thrilled when our dedicated volunteer, Alex, came in with a “new” lamp for our staff to use. He had recently found an old iMac computer in a free pile on the street. By removing the screen and many of the internal components, Alex was able to give a second life to the molded plastic and metal materials that went into the neck and base of the old computer. Then, a few weeks later, he came in with a clock, made from the motherboard from the same computer. These creative examples of reuse remind us of the life cycle of everyday items, and that “waste” is an action, not an object. Come check them out next time you are in our neighborhood!
