New Rolling Recycling Carts are coming in October – Get a Sneak Preview at the Solano Stroll this weekend!

Recycling is old hat for Berkeley residents – we’ve been pioneers in the field for years. But at the Ecology Center we’re always striving for improvements to make recycling easier and more effective. We’ll begin delivery of the new rolling recycling carts to single family homes and small apartment buildings in mid-October. The new rolling carts are much easier to handle – no more lifting those blue bins – plus they hold more than four times more recyclables. The carts discourage poaching and will keep streets and properties cleaner. Delivery will begin on October 11th and will run through the end of November.

Single family homes and duplexes will receive a two-in-one split cart. Use the blue side for bottles, cans, and glass and the brown side for paper and cardboard. Small apartment buildings (3-9 units) will share two rolling recycling carts – one blue-top cart for bottles, cans and glass and one brown-top cart for paper and cardboard. Large cardboard must be cut to fit in the cart or flattened, bundled, and set beside the cart. Carts must be at the curb by 7 AM on waste collection day. If you also set out your old blue bin we’ll pick it up. Look for your post cards and door hangers in the weeks ahead that give you more information about the program.
