We did it! After months of grassroots organizing in coalition with community partners, we saved our flagship Market Match program from a killing budget cut!
Funding for the California Nutrition Incentive Program (CNIP), which, in turn, funds programs like Market Match, has been fully restored at $35 million – the biggest allocation for the program to date. This means programs like Market Match and Farmers Market Nutrition Program are fully funded through 2027!
This is not only a big victory for food security and small CA Farmers, but a win for the democratic process: our small, un-funded coalition of market operators, food security organizations, and concerned citizens banded together and saved Market Match!
We educated and influenced elected officials to act on the behalf of their constituents – and all Californians. We also got considerable press coverage, which we archived here.
Let’s take a moment to celebrate and to recognize the power of collective action, unity, and grassroots organizing.
THANK YOU to those who made calls, sent emails, signed petitions, and more. And special thanks to our coalition partners and elected officials. Please sign the “Thank You” message to Governor Newsom and CA Legislators HERE!
Market Match is California’s largest healthy food incentive program that doubles shoppers’ CalFresh (SNAP/EBT) benefits at farmers markets and other farm-direct sites.
