For Giving Tuesday on December 1st, show your support for the next generation of environmental justice leaders! The Ecology Center’s Youth Environmental Academy (YEA) develops environmental literacy and leadership skills among teens and young adults. Our aim is to inspire, engage, and educate young people from communities historically disenfranchised and left out of the environmental movement. Without the next generation of leaders, we will not be able to achieve our mission.
This year, any contribution, in any amount, donated for Giving Tuesday will be matched dollar for dollar up to $5,000 by our fantastic Board of Directors! Your one time donation can leverage long lasting change. Please help us reach our goal of $10,000 today.
Through programming based on the nationally acclaimed Roots of Success curriculum, youth emerge from the Ecology Center’s YEA program with knowledge in these areas: 1) Health, Food Systems, Food Justice, and Sustainable Agriculture, 2) Alternative Energy, 3) Climate Change, 4) Water Conservation, and 5) Waste Management and Recycling.
Upon graduation, each YEA member receives Certificates of Completion. Their experience in our program gives them proficiency in environmental literacy, community engagement, and nutrition education, building their resumes at a critical point in their lives. Their experience goes beyond the page, with field trips, hands-on workshops and practical day-to-day projects. Your Giving Tuesday donation will directly support young people pursuing “green” careers.
Quality youth programming that employs, mentors, and lifts up young people takes a community of support. $10,000 will allow us to hire 2 youth leaders in 2016 so they can serve as Youth Environmental Academy instructors and gain valuable on-the-job experience.
Give us a head start – help us reach our goal for Giving Tuesday of $10,000 by making a donation today!
Your support goes a long way! Your Giving Tuesday gift will not only be matched, but it will be a vote of confidence in our young people. Supporting teens at such a pivotal point in their lives can have far-reaching effects. With gratitude on behalf of our youth,
