The Ecology Center will be joining immigrant and environmental rights organizations to stage a rally in front of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) offices in San Francisco, to demand the release of Daniel Maher, a Bay Area resident who arrived in the U.S. from Macau at the age of 2. After serving a sentence for a decades-old criminal conviction, Maher has been a hard-working, law-abiding member of the community. For the past ten years, he has served as Recycling Director at the Ecology Center, leading Berkeley’s curbside residential recycling program. On June 2, 2015, Daniel was arrested and detained by ICE, and has been in detention for nearly 70 days. He faces imminent deportation to China, a country he does not know.
