Farmers’ Market Events Coming Up: Stringband Contest & Cooking Demo 9/19, Watershed Environmental Poetry Festival 9/26/15

20150916fmeventsThere are back-to-back weekends of music, poetry, and of course, food at the Saturday Downtown Berkeley Farmers’ Markets. This Saturday, September 19th, the Berkeley Old Time Music Convention brings the String Band Contest to the park, with over 20 acts competing for a bag of Farmers’ Market tokens. Free to enter, and free to listen! Come take it in from 11am-3pm.

Also happening this Saturday, a cooking demo led by Bauman College chef Brandie Roberts. Brandie will be sharing a perfect, healthy, and seasonal dish: Avocado Caprese Salad. Come by for recipes and tastes from 10:30am – 12:30pm.

Next weekend, on Saturday, September 26th the Watershed Environmental Poetry festival comes to the park for the 20th year! This years’ event includes pulitzer-prize winning poet Robert Hass. Joining him is Brenda Hillman, Jane Mead, John Shoptaw, Malcolm Margolin, Novella Carpenter, Genny Lim with poetry and jazz and Simon Ortiz. More poets, music, and information from a range of literary and environmental organizations. All free, in the park from 12 – 4:30 pm.
