BASIL Seed Swap, Work Party and Seed Saving Workshop: All this Weekend, 3/30-4/1

It’s a trifecta of Bay Area Seed Interchange Library (BASIL) events this weekend: Friday night is the annual Seed Swap, Saturday will be a BASIL work party, and Sunday brings a Seed Saving workshop. Whether you have a backyard in full spring garden planning, or are just beginning to look at where your food comes from, BASIL is a great local resource to learn from and contribute to.
Kicking things off is the 13th Annual Seed Swap, which will be this Friday, March 30th, from 7-9 pm. New comers and old timers are welcome to this potluck event: bring seeds to swap and a dish to share, or $10. There will be a presentation on breeding tomatoes and peppers by Fred Hempel of Baia Nicchia Farm and Nursery, and info will be shared as well by Rachel Pachivas from the Label GMOs campaign. We’ll need help getting the seed library re-organized after all the swapping! Come contribute to the BASIL Work Party, Saturday, March 31st at the Ecology Center from 12-4 pm. Work parties are a fun way to learn more about plant families, and converse with other seed savers.
On Sunday, BASIL’s coordinating a Basic Seed Saving class, which is a great way to finish out the weekend with hands on experience. Participants will be given tools to contribute to the library’s cultivation of local plant varieties. For event location, time and details on how to RSVP, click here.
