    ABOUT

The Berkeley Farm Stand came about as a collaborative effort with the Ecology Center, the City of Berkeley, and the Berkeley Downtown Business Association. Given the Ecology Center’s history of operating the Berkeley Farmers’ Markets for 35 years and operating youth-led Produce stands (Farm Fresh Choice) the EC applied to operate a farm stand in the newly renovated BART Plaza. The goal was to regularly provide healthy, locally-grown food to residents and commuters in the heart of downtown Berkeley, as well as regular opportunities for youth training and professional development for the EC’s Youth Environmental Academy.

The Berkeley Farm Stand launched in October 2018, following the grand opening of the newly renovated BART plaza. Since then, BFS has operated 5 days a week, Monday through Friday 3:00-7:00pm, rain or shine.

The Berkeley Farm Stand offers year long on site job training for upwards of 9 Ecology Center youth staff, with additional youth interns working the stand in the Spring and Summer. The stand gives youth staff the opportunity to learn and practice practical professional skills, operating a small business, conducting sales and doing outreach to the community of Downtown Berkeley.

The Berkeley Farm Stand aims to make lasting impacts in food security and access to healthy, locally-sourced food for Downtown Berkeley residents, students, and commuters. All of our products are grown locally, free of pesticides or GMOs and most of our products are certified organic. We also feature a variety of prepared goods, made here in the Bay-Area by small-scale food artisans.
