Sonia Diermayer’s, of the Sierra Club, will lead a talk on the water crisis in California. Her volunteer work on water issues began after her retirement from an elementary grades teaching career and a decade of architectural planning and design. An avid backpacker and skier, she makes frequent pilgrimages to the Sierra Nevada mountains, where the story of California water begins.
A volunteer stint with Food & Water Watch in 2007 was followed by lobbying in Sacramento on graywater policy. At another Bay Area non-profit, Wholly H2O, Sonia participated with writing website content and the organization of forums on various water topics, including Rainwater Harvesting and Water Rates.
Her volunteer efforts at Sierra Club have evolved into a focus on Bay Area water supply sustainability, water conservation, education, and always learning more about the whats, whos and hows of water in our state.
