Sonia Diermayer’s, of the Sierra Club, will lead a talk on the water crisis in California. Her volunteer work on water issues began after her retirement from an elementary grades teaching career and a decade of architectural planning and design. An avid backpacker and skier, she makes frequent pilgrimages to the Sierra Nevada mountains, where the story of California water begins.

A volunteer stint with Food & Water Watch in 2007 was followed by lobbying in Sacramento on graywater policy. At another Bay Area non-profit, Wholly H2O, Sonia participated with writing website content and the organization of forums on various water topics, including Rainwater Harvesting and Water Rates.

Her volunteer efforts at Sierra Club have evolved into a focus on Bay Area water supply sustainability, water conservation, education, and always learning more about the whats, whos and hows of water in our state.

The Berkeley Energy Commission is hosting 3 community workshops to discuss modernizing the Residential and Commercial Energy Conservation Ordinances (RECO and CECO) that require energy and water efficiency in existing single-family, multi-family and commercial buildings. The goal of the update is to use information to accelerate energy improvements, make compliance more user-friendly and engage a broader segment of the community.

City policymakers want to hear from home owners, businesses, property owners, and tenants as they develop the new RECO/CECO requirements. Come to the workshop to learn what updates are being proposed and how these improvements will help Berkeley meet its Climate Action Plan goals.

This session’s topic: Proposed Ordinance & Implementation Plan.
