Annoyed by unwanted catalogs clogging your mailbox? Want to do something about it, but not sure what? Fret no longer: Catalog Choice, a free online service, gives users the power to ax the catalogues they no longer wish to receive through the mail.

Catalog Choice is a sponsored project of the Ecology Center—and it now boasts over 45,000 users. It is endorsed by the National Wildlife Federation and the Natural Resources Defense Council, and funded by the Overbrook Foundation, the Merck Family Fund, and the Kendeda Fund. Its mission is simple: eliminate unwanted catalogues and promote sustainability by reducing deforestation and global warming pollution associated with catalog mailings, most of which go directly into recycling or a landfill.

The free service is easy to use. Simply visit www.catalogchoice.org to register. Search the database to select which catalogues you no longer want, and Catalog Choice will remove your name from these mailing lists. Users may add new companies to the database, so expect the service to expand over time.

During the holidays, prevent all those catalogs from spoiling your green Christmas and welcome in an uncluttered New Year. Spread the word and save some trees.
