Terrain is a unique magazine offering thorough, reliable reporting on environmental issues of critical importance. Published by the Ecology Center in Berkeley, Terrain covers local, regional, and national news, maintaining a regional focus within a global context. In the current trend of media green-washing, Terrain prides itself on its excellence and integrity in reporting and writing. We have twice been named a Project Censored Award winner. Also, over 90 high schools and organizations in the Bay Area now use Terrain as part of their curriculum.

Terrain is distributed widely--to the core constituency of Ecology Center members, to over 1,200 high school students enrolled in the Terrain for Schools program, and to active adults all over Northern California. Terrain is available free at a variety of retail outlets, including health food stores, outdoor gear shops, bookstores, cafes, and nurseries. Copies of Terrain are mailed to public and school libraries, information organizations, politicians, city planners, scientists, and activists, as well as to our paid subscribers from out-of-state. Terrain readers are predominantly middle and upper income, well-educated, and committed to greening the world through community and local initiatives. For green businesses and those serving active adults, Terrain offers a targeted audience of smart readers who support our advertisers with their dollars and time.

Mechanical Specifications
Terrain is printed web offset on 50-pound recycled paper. There are two to four 10-inch deep columns per page.
Material Requirements
If possible, advertisements should be submitted electronically, in one of the following formats: EPS files (e.g., Adobe Illustrator), with all graphics embedded and all fonts turned to outlines; and QuarkXpress 4.1 files, including all fonts and images (200 dpi greyscale). Please call for more detailed specifications.
Graphics assistance is available in-house for ad layout or sizing. There is a minimum $15 charge for these services.
Contract and Billing Terms
- Payment and artwork is due upon receipt of the invoice. A late fee will apply after the ad deadline (See schedule below.)
