Asia and the Pacific Rim
Asia is a hotspot for plastics. Correspondingly, there is a wallet
of activists, NGO's and environmental groups working hard to dispell
the myth that plastics are necessary and safe for the environment.
As an international destination for much of the world's plastic
waste materials, activists are pressing hard to a reduction in
the amount of imported plastics, and outright bans on disposable
plastic packaging. A wealth of information is listed below on
these and many more projects.
Right:
In India, inexpensive plastic products (often made with imported
post-consumer plastics) threaten to displace traditional crafts
and artisans. As a result, people are facing rising unemployment
and intensified impoverishment. Previous to the inundation by
plastics, many containers and packaging materials were hand made
and produced with natural, bio-degradeable materials. Photo
