Farm Fresh Choice Farmers

The produce that Farm Fresh Choice sells at our produce stands is sourced from the following farms. We intentionally contract with small scale farmers who reflect the communities we serve, and we offer the produce to our customers for the same price that we purchase it from these farmers.

Who are the Farm Fresh Choice Farmers?

AMO organics

is a group of 12 farmers, including Juan Salinas, Valdemar, Efren, Baltazarl Juan Vargas, Florentino, Salvador, anf Maria Inez, who farm together on 70 acres near Gilroy, about one hour south of San Jose. By working togeter, they are able to reduce their costs and to learn from one another. Each has their own specialty, but all grow many different kinds of fruit and vegetables. All oh the AMO farmers were once farmworkers, and were trained to be organic farmers at the Rural Development Center. They now sell the produce from their farms to wholesale dostributors, local retail stores, restaurants, two Bay Area schools, at farmers' markets, and to you though Farm Fresh Choice.

Kaki Farm

is owned and operated by Nicasio Soria and his family in Gridly, just south of Chio. Kaki is the Japanese word for persimmon, which Nicasio specializes in. He also grows a many other kinds of fruit and vegetables, including strawberries, blackberries, plums, pears, peaches, grapes, asparagus, corn, melons, walnuts, oranges, mandarins, and even eggs. Nicasio's father was farmer in Zacatecas, Mexico, and Nicasio has been farming in America since 1984. Nicasio sells his produce at many California Farmers' Markets, including the ones in Berkeley, and many of his persimmons are sold all over the west coast.

Firme Farm

is owned and operated by Richard Firme in Gustine. He is selling a fair bit of produce at the Berkeley Farmers' Market - mostly leafy greens, hot peppers, broccoli, bok choy, cilantro and root vegetables like radishes, turnips, and carrots.

Ludwig Avenue Farm

Arthur Davis, or Mr. Davis as many of us know him, owns Ludwig Avenue Farm in Santa Rosa. He specializes in eggs, but also grows potatoes, cabbage, and some of the best greens around.

Lucero Organic Farm

is owned by Ben Lucero. Until recently, Ben farmed in San Martin, south of San Jose, but he lost his land when the owners decided that were going to develop it fir housing. Ben has found another farm, but the transistion has been difficult. He grows strawberries almost year-round, and also has wounderful peppers, squash and tomatoes in the summer.
