Year Round Vegetable Gardening

Tuesday | August 12, 2014 | 6:00 pm — 8:00 pm

University of California Botanical Garden | 200 Centennial Drive, Berkeley, CA 94720

Wondering about the wisdom of growing a food garden during a drought year? Pam Peirce, author of the classic regional book Golden Gate Gardening, will show you how to use the cooler, wetter part of the year to grow delicious food like the snap peas shown at right. Working with mediterranean planting and growth cycles lets you minimize your dependence on supplemental water. Whether you grow vegetables and herbs in containers or garden beds, in a home garden or a school garden, you will learn the best crops to grow, how best planting times vary across coastal and inland microclimates, and tips for integrating seasonal crops to produce a year-round harvest. Pam’s talk and slide show includes common and less common vegetables, herbs, edible weeds, and edible flowers.
