Work Party: Earth Day Community Sheet Mulching!

This event has passed.

Did you know that irrigated lawns are some of the biggest water guzzlers around?!  They are high maintenance, often accumulate pesticides, and dehydrate our watershed.  If you want to learn one of the easiest ways to lower your water footprint while improving your soil this work party is for you!

Join eco-business leaders Green Key Commercial this Earth Day as we convert 17,000 square feet of turf around their office building into a water-wise landscape. We will start the day getting a solid foundation in the principles of sheet mulching and it’s uses in building a water-wise landscape.  Then we’ll spend the rest of the day mulching our way to water-wise goodness.

The skills learned from this commercial conversion can easily be scaled down to your own yard.  You’ll learn about soil ecology, water retention, and the power of sheet mulching.  You’ll also learn about the City of Petaluma’s Mulch Madness program – an innovative approach to helping residents conserve water while building healthy soil.  Finally you’ll walk away with confidence and new skills to become a part of the Mulch Madness Movement!
