Urban Beekeeping: Hive Management

This event has passed.

Join guest instructor Paul Koski from the San Francisco Beekeepers Association as we explore the elements of a healthy, mature honeybee colony. Topics will include assessing queen health, recognizing a healthy pattern of eggs, larvae and pupae. How to provide enough space for colony growth and adding a super for storage of excess honey will be explained. Integrated pest management practices for dealing with honeybee pests & diseases will be discussed. We will also explore behavior and communication among worker bees for locating and foraging on nectar & pollen sources. If weather permits, we will examine a healthy hive to demonstrate the concepts discussed.

Space is limited, register online.
