Turn Out at City Council July 1: Let’s Show Big Soda What They’re Up Against!
On July 1st, Berkeley vs. Big Soda will celebrate a major accomplishment! Berkeley City Council will place our soda tax measure on the November ballot.
We need you for our Coalition rally – help us show the City Council and Big Soda how important this issue is to Berkeley families and to the health of our kids, our neighbors, and ourselves.
Join us on July 1 at 5:30pm on the steps of City Hall, located at 2134 Martin Luther King, Jr. Way. Berkeley vs. Big Soda is hosting a press conference, and we need a visible display of supporters.
Afterward, stay for the City Council meeting, starting at 7pm. Help the campaign by holding signs in solidarity with campaign speakers.
Your participation is critical for two reasons.
Big Soda is well aware of the Council meeting. In every other locale that has attempted to fight them, Big Soda has funded a front group, masquerading as a grassroots movement. We have no way of knowing if Big Soda will send representatives and, if so, how many. When we turn out our supporters en masse, we will show Big Soda what they are up against in Berkeley.
The media will be present, most likely throughout the evening. It is important that the message on the evening news is that of Berkeley vs. Big Soda, not the message of whatever wolf-in-sheep’s-clothing front group Big Soda sends.
Let us know you’ll attend by contacting Justin Jones by email. See on July 1!
PS: Our win against Big Soda won’t just be accomplished at City Hall. Big Soda will spend millions of dollars this fall to try to defeat us. We will not win without money and volunteers. Donate today at BerkeleyvsBigSoda.com.
