Standing Like a Tree: Benefit for the Sacred Grove Women’s Forest Sanctuary
You are invited to a celebration to honor the 20th anniversary of the Sacred Grove Women’s Forest Sanctuary. 20 years ago a small group of Bay Area women realized that the best way to protect land and old growth redwood forest was to purchase it and hold it in trust for perpetuity. They found a beautiful piece of land on the Mattole River in southern Humboldt County which was home to 1000 year old redwood trees, owls, salmon, bear and mountain lion. They scraped together a downpayment and worked with Sanctuary Forest, a local land trust organization, to buy and establish the Women’s Forest Sanctuary.
On Saturday, April 19 we will gather at the Sacred Stream Center in Berkeley to honor community support for the purchase of the Sacred Grove and the connection that we all have to forests and the wider ecosystems.
There will be music and singing with special guests Betsy Rose, Edie Hartshorne and the Threshold Choir, a dance performance by Arisika and art by Youth Spirit Artworks. Light food and wine will be served.
RSVP to Meave by email or phone, or show up at the door.
