Photography Exhibition: Robert Spertus: Spaces
The photos in this show depict, among other places, a desert in eastern Oregon, an island off the coast of Maine, and a garden in Berkeley. They were taken over a 20-year time span, mostly with special panorama cameras that utilize a moving lens to sweep across the scene Spertus, has long been enamored with the “wide open spaces” of the Western landscape. While searching for ways to convey the vastness and grandeur of the mountains and deserts that he was exploring he came upon these pan cameras and it was love at first sight. Spertus subsequently discovered that they also “see” small intimate spaces in fresh and interesting ways.
