Moonrise Kingdom and Sunset Splendor
Join us on a family-friendly hike to watch the Supermoon rise and the sun set from a hill on the Nimitz Trail (a Supermoon is when the moon is closest to the Earth and appears larger than other full moons). The hike is a two-mile out and back on a flat, paved path, except for the final ascent of about 300 feet on a dirt path. Strollers, walkers and everyone else welcome. Flashlights are a good idea for the return. The Supermoon rises at 6:38 p.m. and the sun sets at 7:28 p.m. If you stay for sunset, you should be back at the parking lot by 8 p.m. or earlier if you just want to watch the moonrise. No dogs, please. Heavy clouds, fog or rain cancels. Check the BPWA website by 2 p.m. on September 8th for news of a cancellation if weather is a concern. *If you want to join us for the picnic at 5 p.m., please bring food for a potluck picnic and your own beverage (we’ll provide plates, cups and utensils).
