Hike: Winter Solstice Saunter

This event has passed.

Celebrate the shortest day of the year with a 5-mile hike up one of Mt. Diablo’s shortest satellite spurs, Twin Peaks. Along the way, we’ll investigate signs of the seasonal flora and learn why Mt. Diablo’s pines would make the worst Christmas trees imaginable!

From Twin Peaks, we’ll have a great view of the shuttered Concord Naval Weapons Station, where Greenbelt Alliance is helping implement a visionary reuse plan. For a preview of this hike, check out the Plants of Twin Peaks audible guide.

How to Get There:
From Highway 24 heading east, exit at Ygnacio Valley Road and turn right. Drive on Ygnacio Valley Road for about 7 miles to the intersection of Ygnacio Valley Road and Clayton Road in Concord. Turn right (east) and drive east on Clayton Road for 1 mile. Turn right on Mitchell Canyon Road and drive all the way to the end, past the quarry, into the park. We will meet in front of the Mitchell Canyon Visitor Center.
