Help Berkeley Protect the Environment by Reducing Consumption of Animal Products
Wednesday | May 24, 2017 | 7:00 pm — 8:30 pm
Ecology Center Classroom | 2530 San Pablo Avenue, Berkeley, CA 94702
Join the Animal Legal Defense Fund and Transition Berkeley featuring Matt Hamity from ALDF to learn more and to strategize changes to Berkeley’s Climate Action Plan and policies.
Berkeley’s Climate Action Plan recognizes that “a meat diet requires twice as much energy to produce as a vegetarian diet.” Yet Berkeley’s CAP does not incentivize the sale or purchase of vegetarian or plant-based food, limiting the application of those incentives to “local food” only. This is problematic, since about 84 percent of the greenhouse gas emissions occur in food production, whereas only 11 percent come from food transportation.
