Healthy Soils Demo Project Results: Compost Field Day

Sat, March 25, 2023 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
StopWaste Property 11799 Flynn Road N, North Livermore, CA 94550

The Alameda County Resource Conservation District, StopWaste, and UC Merced have collaborated on a CDFA Healthy Soils Program Demonstration grant over the past 3+ years to analyze the impact a one-time application of compost has on steep-sloped, grazed grassland systems. The final results from the study are completed, and we would like to share our findings with farmers and people interested in compost application at the intersection of compost and agriculture. The field day will have an emphasis on compost and the differences for rangeland application as compared to urban and row crop settings. Interested folks will be able to look at the plots, learn more about rangeland compost and the specific process to applying compost on the property, see how to collect metrics like soil carbon and soil bulk density, discuss final results and their implications, and hear about cost-share programs around compost and other soil-beneficial practices on both rural and urban agricultural settings.
